Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1

Lenovo has arrived late to the party, but the company better known for its business notebooks and PC's has finally released an Android tablet.

Android Honeycomb 3.1 ; HDMI-out ; Preloaded with up to 40 apps

13.3m thick ; Nothing new or innovative

Lenovo is late to the tablet party, but better late than never, right? Its IdeaPad Tablet K1 is aimed directly at consumers, but on face value it seems like yet another Android tablet that screams "me too".

Lenovo IdeaPad K1 Review

The K1 is a bit too heavy and large for its own good, and Lenovo's Android modifications are a mixed bag, but there is nothing particularly offensive about the design, specs, or operation of the device.

If you’re looking for an affordable 10.1-inch tablet, the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 is not the cheapest tablet, but at about $450, it does come in at less than most other 32GB models. The K1 is a bit too heavy and large for its own good, and Lenovo’s Android...

Lenovo IdeaPad K1 review

The K1's easy-to-use skin and useful apps make it an acceptable option for low-tech types, but geeks will likely demand faster performance and longer battery life.

Lenovo IdeaPad K1 review: Lenovo IdeaPad K1

Lenovo IdeaPad K1

Lenovo's ; packs in all of the best features found in today's modern Honeycomb tablets (upgradeable to Android 4.0) and offers some unique Android optimizations and preloaded apps.

The design is thick and heavy compared with the latest from Apple and Samsung, not all of the Android tweaks pay off, and the screen isn't as bright as it could be.

Lenovo plays it safe with the IdeaPad K1, delivering a solid tablet that does little to stand out from the Honeycomb herd.

Review: Lenovo IdeaPad K1

With everyone trying to muscle into the tablet market, Lenovo's entry is a credible contender.

Available in black, white or red. Largely thoughtful list of preinstalled apps will be of value to novice users. Solid performance. Textured back provides a nice grip; easy to hang on to. Relatively inexpensive at just 0 for 32 GB

Navigation can be difficult. Just shy of six hours of battery life under full load. Volume buttons are tough to reach

Lenovo IdeaPad K1 review

Two months before Steve Jobs revealed the original iPad in 2010, Lenovo arrived at CES with a product called the IdeaPad U1. The U1 was a tablet with an innovative keyboard dock — the tablet itself...

Netflix included ; Optical home button ; Some useful software tweaks

Application crashes, unstable software ; Thicker and larger than competition ; Glossy, plastic back feels cheap

The IdeaPad K1 has been in development in one form or another for a year and a half, yet it still isn’t ready

Lenovo IdeaPad K1 review

Since the release of the first Android Honeycomb tablet (the Motorola Xoom ), we've seen a parade of more or less identical devices. Some are thinner or sport better cameras or extra ports, but they all run the same software on the same 1GHz dual-core...

Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1 (Wi-Fi)

The Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1 is as good as its Android Honeycomb tablet competition, but doesn't offer any game-changing differentiators that make it stand out in the ever-expanding tablet space.

Fast performance. Good multimedia features. Clever button and camera layout. Physical Home button. Netflix is preloaded.

Prone to crashes. Thick. Lots of bloatware.

There was but one performance issue with the K1: In my tests, apps, along with the browser, crashed a number of times. Once, the tablet crashed completely and required a reboot, a problem I’ve never had with another Android tablet.

Lenovo IdeaPad K1 Tablet Review: Rising Above the Android Tablet Fray

Useful interface enhancements to Android 3.x ; Stylish design

Among the larger and heavier tablets ; Speakers produce thin, tinny audio

The IdeaPad K1 makes a strong case for itself with its usability enhancements and snappy design. The inaccessibility of the microSD card slot, the poor speakers, and the tablet's relative heft are all drawbacks, but may be minor inconveniences given...

Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1

There are some unique design elements in play on the K1, and they're mostly good things. The colored back, along with a small bump on the bottom where the speakers are, provides a nice punch instead of the sleek-but-boring all-black look. The Volume...
